The New Year passed in a similar manner as Christmas with lots of food. It was the anniversary for Catholic church I will be attending and we started the night out marching around the neighborhood with a band playing instruments and persons reciting various readings. Also four people carried a doll of San Silvestre around in honor of him. We proceeded through the streets for about a half hour and then returned to the church where fireworks were lit off by the kids. Fireworks are a very popular item here in Bolivia. After the mini celebration we attended Mass which ended at around 9:30.
Drinks and refreshments were shared afterwards and I then went to a New Years Eve party with my new host brother. This consisted of a lot of food, some dancing and talking. When the new year finally passed everyone went around giving hugs, kisses on the cheeks and best wishes for the new year. The evening finally ended at around 3:00 in the morning and we returned to our homes. However the following day I was invited to another party where a lot of food, dancing and more friendly conversations took place. The holiday season here was a lot of fun and definitely a good experience. I wish it could have lasted longer, but I will resume work on Monday and hopefully I will soon establish a regular routine with my new job. Thanks for your continued prayers.
